Liversing-Danuvia MH 1965

Liversing were  the legendary beat band in Hungary until 1966. Atlantis were the "hungarian Beatles", Liversing were the  "hungarian Rolling Stones" . The band formed in 1963, and in the beginning the band was the suburban "little Beatles". But when the Rolling Stones  and the rhythm and blues music style came to behind the Iron Curtain, the band changed to Rolling Stones cover songs. Liversing were the really suburban band, and they were the really beatniks : heavy music, scandals, full house concerts. The original line up split up in 1966 because of lot of different things: they had never released any recordings until 1966, and they had no hungarian language songs ( beat bands started the hungarian language song-writes from 1966) .
Here's the bootleg from 1965, when the band was in the peak of his career. Not so good quality, but you can listening some cool instrumental songs, and lot of cover songs from Rolling StonesThem, Searchers, Swinging Blue Jeans. The singer, Árpád Túry had a great voice, the guitarist, Zsolt Szendrődi was a very cool guitar player. The band played the cover songs better than the originals!

The original line up, 1965:

  • Árpád Túry - Lead vocals
  • Zsolt Szendrődi - Lead guitar
  • Lajos Szabó - Rhythm guitar
  • Zsolt Homonnay - Drums
  • László Varga - Bass
  • György Tar - Technician
Tracklist:

01. Kegyetlen tenger ( Cruel sea)
02. A milliomos (The millionare)
03. Midnight
04. Félelem (Fear)
05. Carmen parafrázis (Carmen paraphrase)
06. Down Home Girl (Rolling Stones)
07. Love Potion no. 9. (The Searchers)
08. Time Is On My Side (Rolling Stones)
09. I Must Go (Swinging Blue Jeans)
10. It's All Over Now (Rolling Stones)
11. Walking the Dog (Rolling Stones)
12. Big City
13. Gloria (Them)
14. Carol (Rolling Stones)
15. Hey Mama (Them)

After the changes (1989), Liversing became the legendary beat band. They released 2 LP after 2000. The first LP called : "Rhytm and Blues Madhouse in Hungary" and "Magnetic Depths and Electric" in limited edition. The first LP there are their 1965-1966 songs, the 2nd LP there are their 1967 songs with another line up. János Zoltán  wrote the band history in 2005, his book called: "A Nagy Degeneráció- A Liversing story" (meaning: The big degeneration - story of Liversing).

Enjoy!

Atlantis-Rock and Roll Music EP 1965

Here's the 2nd Atlantis EP from end of 1965. The first EP was succesful, therefore the band got another chance from the State Record Company (MHV). This EP also there are 4 songs, and the structure of the EP same like the first: one Lennon-McCartney song, one classical cover song, one old western rock and roll, and one Rimskij Korsakov instrumental.
Look at the songs!
1. The EP starting the Beatles HIT song of 1964: it was the "Rock And Roll Music" , and released in 1964 in For Sale LP. Not the original Lennon-McCartney song, because written by Chuck Berry in the late 50s, but Chuck Berry went to prison in 1958, and when he came out in the 60s, every British band played his songs. The Beatles version is fast and cool, but the Atlantis Rock And Roll Music cover is not so good. The guitar sounds are not heavy, and the singer voice is too funny...
2. The second song is called: "Trubadúr Parafrázis" (meaning: Troubadour Paraphrase ), is the funny arrangement of the classical Verdi song. I found a cool archive music clip about this song from 1965:

Funny clip: the band wearing a idiotic motorcycle clothes....

3. The 3rd song is the best! Called: "What Do I Say?" from Ray Charles. The original song released in 1959, so it's a simple good old rock 'n' roll. I don't like the original Ray Charles version, but the Atlantis version is fucking cool! You have to listen it!
4.The fourth and the last song from this EP is also a instrumental song, and also from  Rimskij Korsakov. Called: "Dongó" (meaning: Bumble Bee). Very good and very charming song, i like it.

I can't stand write anymore about this EP, i think, it was not their best EP, because the original line-up was replaced: the former guitarist, Radics and the drummer István Pintér left the band, and founded a new beat band, Atlantis Nr.2. The bass player Sankó must joined up to soldier.

The band line up during the second EP:

  • Béla Némenyi - Lead vocals
  • András Veszelinov- Drums
  • Zoltán Beke - Bass.
  • Sándor Boronkai - Guitar
  • György Rozsnyói - Organ
Tracklist:

01. Rock and Roll Music (Lennon-McCartney)
02.Trubadúr Parafrázis (Verdi)
03. What Do I Say? (Ray Charles)
04. A Dongó (Rimskij Korsakov)

Atlantis- Should Have Known Better EP 1965

Atlantis was the one of the first beat/pop band in Hungary, formed in 1962, and they released their first EP in 1965. This EP was the first Hungarian beat EP, and this stuff is my favorite! There are 4 songs: 2 English cover songs and 2 instrumental songs. At that time, the beat bands had no own hungarian lyrics songs, every bands played just english cover songs (mainly Beatles songs). Look at the songs: the record starting the famous Lennon-McCartney song, called "I Should Have Known Better" from the awesome Hard Day's Night LP. The original Beatles song released in 1964, so i say: the Eastern European beatniks were not late! The Atlantis cover is a bit funny: slowly than the original Beatles song, and the main instrument is the organ, not the guitar! The singer, Béla Némenyi voice is cool, but you can feel and hear his funny english pronunciation. Why? Because behind the Iron Curtain the bands learned the English songs from the Radio Luxemburg or from the illegal Yugoslavian-copied (Jugoton) western LPs.
The second song called "Hindu Dal" (meaning "Hindu song"), and it was the old Rimskij Korsakov song. Instrumental, but very good! It's nothing special. Lot of band (in West and in East) tried to orchestrate some classical music songs. After all the Shadows also played one song from Mozart.
The 3rd song was the old rock and roll HIT song, the "Shakin' All Over" from Johnny Kid and the Pirates. The original Johnny Kidd song released in 1960, but the band re-released in 1965 too. It's the best song in this EP, because the Atlantis copied this song absolutely good! Their former guitarist , Béla Radics (later about him) playing totally clever, his guitar sound as like as the contemporary western guitar sounds...!
The last song called "Atlantis Rock", they only own instrumental song from this EP. Fast and sounds like late 50s twist, but later (in the middle of the song), the guitar take over the leading part instead of the organ and the bass guitar and will dominate in the song. Absolutely cool!

The band members in 1965:

  • Béla Némenyi-Lead Vocals
  • Béla Radics- Guitar
  • László Sankó - Bass
  • György Rozsnyói- Organ
  • István Pintér- Drums

EP tracklist:

01. Should Have Known Better (Lennon-McCartney)
02.Hindu Dal (Rimskij Korsakov)
03.Shakin' All Over (Johnny Kidd and the Pirates)
04.Atlantis Rock (Atlantis)
